Pretty little easy hike of about half an hour to an hour. Lots of free parking. No entrance fees. Quite a few picknick benches in the shade under the trees. Couple of barbecues available. Two porta potties as restrooms. There's an upper and a lower trail route. We did the upper one. Some nice views. Unfortunately the stairs connecting the two have been removed months ago with no indication if they're going to be restored and if so when.
My son and I hiked over from the beach at Pounds Hollow. We hiked around the bottom and then up to the top, around the top trail, and then back down to Pounds Hollow.
We enjoyed a lovely afternoon hiking both the upper loop and then dropped down on the lower trail to visit the Ox-Lot Cave. We then walked out-and-back on the Lake Trail to Pounds Hollow Lake. There were a few others out enjoying the pretty day. The trail surfaces were great. There were a couple of large trees down across the Lake Trail that currently require hikers to step or crawl over.
One of the best hikes we did this year. It’s close to garden of the gods and has plenty of shade, elevation changes and scenic views. Access to the campground is through a different entry to the Pound lake but all the trails are connected to it. Highly recommend this!
I could have taken alot more photos.. but we were there to mushroom hunt!
Beautiful little trail.. not to long, alot of places you can stop and hang out and chill.. alot of flat hilltops to sit on! A couple cool looking trees! If you like hiking, even a small trail.. it's beautiful!
Beautiful easy hike. There is a slight incline at some points but most of the trail is paved. Be careful some of the paving stones are slippery with moss especially after rain. It was unfortunate the observation deck stairs are removed and you cannot access the lower points of the bluff and rock formations due to this. Hopefully repairs are being made and they will be replaced sooner rather than later. Over all a great quick trail for families to get outside and enjoy nature.
My favorite was the Ox-lot cave! The stairs that connect the loops is currently under construction. I don’t recommend doing the outer loop on the left. It hasn’t been maintained in a while and the trail markers are difficult to see.
The stairs were closed and under construction, so we ended up walking the loop. We are glad we did! We saw so much. Great hike!
